All eyes on Opposition Liberals as Tuesday's budget approaches
Unfortunately, the GST was the wrong tax to cut, but since it was a splashy election promise they had to do it. Cutting corporate taxes benefits Canadians by helping to keep jobs and investment in Canada, but I think they were cut a bit too fast. I would be very surprised if the liberals brought down the government because of this budget. There will likely be little if anything in it to cause a ruckus with the voters, and Stephane Dion really has very little traction with the voters. I'm guessing that the Liberals simply abstain...again. In general the Conservatives have done a decent job with the economy, although I strongly disagree with some of the program cuts they have done so that they could cut taxes more or pander to their more rural base and give tax credits instead of funding things badly needed in cities like daycare.
J.D. Power and Associates Reports: Sony Models Sweep Inaugural ...
WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif., Nov. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- The Sony DCR-DVD Series(1) and DCR-SR Series of camcorders rank highest in their respective segments, according to the J.D. Power and Associates 2007 Camcorder Usage and Satisfaction Study(SM) released today. The inaugural study measures customer satisfaction with standard definition analog or digital camcorders across two segments: standard definition ($399 or less); and premium standard definition ($400 or more). Within each segment, three factors are examined to determine overall camcorder performance: appearance and styling; operation; and performance and video quality. Sony products occupy the top two rank positions in the standard definition segment. The Sony DCR-DVD Series, which comes equipped with direct DVD burning capabilities, ranks highest with an index score of 744 points on a 1,000-point scale.
Founders' letters lag in delivery
From sunrise until about 2 p.m. each day, he was "drudging at the writing table." "The letters of a person," he once wrote, ". . . form the only full and genuine journal of his life." In his 83 years, Thomas Jefferson penned nearly 20,000 pieces of correspondence, many in Philadelphia. The prolific framer of the Declaration of Independence wrote about politics, science, math and horticulture. But about half his papers have never been published. Despite various efforts by dozens of scholars since 1943, vast portions of the letters written by and to America's Founding Fathers are unavailable to the public. Some of the documents won't be readily accessible until the middle of the century. The slow pace of their publication - largely attributed to insufficient funding and staff - has provoked the ire of scholars, Pulitzer Prize-winning historian David McCullough, and federal officials who describe the delay as shameful.

Xacti HD1a HD camcorder adds wide display, more
Sanyo on Thursday introduced the Xacti HD1a, a compact digital media camera that records both still pictures and digital video. It does it all onto an SD flash memory card. The Xacti HD1a is coming in September for $699.99. The Xacti HD1a records video in 720p and grabs 5.1 megapixel still images. Because it uses SD cards instead of bulky tapes or optical media, it's much more compact than other camcorders. It uses a 10x optical zoom lens and 2.2-inch LCD display. New features in the HD1a include a 16:9 widescreen still picture mode, in-camera video editing, a 30 frames-per-second 320 x 240 MPEG-4 pixel video recording mode called “Web-SHQ," optimized for the video iPod. The 16:9 still image mode grabs 3.8 megapixel images in the same wide-screen format as the Xacti HD1's digital videos.
