Nikon announces its latest D-SLR camera called the D60
Nikon is one of the largest and most successful makers of digital cameras on the market and has made a full line of D-SLR and point-and-shoot digital cameras for years. Today Nikon announced the newest member if its D-SLR line called the Nikon D60. The camera will sit in the line between the D40x and the D80 in both price and features. While Nikon has declined to comment on pricing at the moment, we can get an idea of the price range the D60 will retail in be looking at the D40, D40x and D80. The Nikon D40 sells for $549.95 in kit form, the D40x sells for $699.95 in a kit and the D80 sells for $999.95 all with a kit 18-55mm lens. That would likely put the new D60 in the $800 price range. The New D60 has a 10.2 megapixel DX-format CCD sensor and exclusive EXPEED image processor.
HD DVD camp implodes
The emerging story of CES so far is the seeming implosion of HD DVD. After the defection of Warners to rival Blu-ray camp, the format – backed by Microsoft and Toshiba – is left with just Universal and Paramount as the only major studios to support the hi def disc. The HD DVD camp turned a crisis into a disaster when it cancelled its scheduled press conference at the show and then – perhaps unsurprisingly – cancelled all media interviews at the show. It's left observers with the impression that the HD DVD group is in disarray and on the verge of collapse. Blu-ray, on the other hand, is only to eager to parade spokespeople talking up its own format. Whatever happens next its clear that consumers are the ones who are suffering.
Is Stupid the new Cool?
He appears on talk shows and gets offered his own reality show and endorsement deals. He becomes a celebrity by offering not much more than a brief good laugh. And we weren't necessarily laughing with him To some, 20-year-old Chris Crocker epitomizes the idea of the 21st-century dumbed-down celebrity, another drive-by luminary in an age of disposable stardom. But there's something more going on here, something that actually worries some people. There have always been entertainers willing to play dumb to get big laughs. Think Gracie Allen, Goldie Hawn on "Laugh-In," Bob Denver on "Gilligan's Island," Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels in "Dumb and Dumber," and so on. The difference now seems to be the degree to which people are watching. Dumb seems to be the new cool.
Toshiba weighs into Macbook Air with slim Portege
The R500 not only has 3G connectivity, it also has three USB ports to Air's one, and it includes an internal DVD drive, removable battery, a full-size DVI video port, a PC Card slot, Gigabit Ethernet and a Firewire connector. All of the latter are missing from the Macbook Air. Chan said that the R500 weighs just 1kg as well, to the Air's 3lb (1.35kg), and is thinner. The one area where the Air scores is screen size - it has a 13.3-inch TFT, versus the R500's 12-inch. .
