Cherry Pie Picache, Sid Lucero
The awarding ceremony of the Gawad Tanglaw at the Carlos Palanca Auditorium of the University of Perpetual Help-Las Pias last weekend officially signaled the start of the 2008 awards season for cinema excellence. Cherry Pie Picache capped the best lead actress award for her performance in the film Foster Child, beating the likes of Jaclyn Jose and Irma Adlawan. Picache, who came in a chocolate brown ensemble, dedicated her award to the real-life foster parents who inspired the making of the film. This is for them, who despite the meager income they get, make life meaningful for the children under their care, preparing them for a better life ahead. Critics have predicted that Picache will be the actress to beat in this years awards season. Last year, Picaches take on the lesbian character in the film Kaleldo was outstanding, but she lost to Gina Pareo (Kubrador) in all the award-giving bodies.

IIA ready for new censor battle
For a decade, the IIA has been fighting legislation that would force internet companies to act as censors and filter internet content. The industry escaped the laws in 1999 when the Howard government approved a co-regulatory scheme giving the communications watchdog power to order ISPs to take down prohibited content hosted in Australia. Last August the coalition began supplying software to screen content as part of $190 million plan to shield children from online sex predators and pornography. Around that time, Senator Conroy said that if elected, Labor would introduce laws requiring ISPs to provide "clean feeds". After the election, the IIA has cranked up its anti-filter lobbying. "This has remained a fairly controversial political issue for a long time in Australia," Mr Coroneos said.

House'': Polar Opposites
The computer-sex bits with House were McSteamy, once again making me feel sad for the guy because he is so stilted with women. Mira Sorvino seemed like a good match for him, and I would have loved to witness her psychologically take down House's walls, but there was too much else going on, and the actress has only signed on for one episode. Still, it almost counts as a psych consult. In my fantasy programming, House would end up on Celebrity Rehab With Dr. Drew. Meanwhile, the Wilson subplot was such a surprise. I thought his new girlfriend would turn out to be Cuddy, since that is what House was thinking, too. I did not see Cutthroat Bitch as the logical lust object for our oncologist sidekick, and still don't, but then the preview for the next episode spelled out the attraction. C.B.
